Think Outside the Box: Embracing Freedom in Creativity

So apparently as humans we have a box that we are in, and it governs how we think. (Come with me on this one as we play with words and thought)

You know rules, traditions, barriers. Things that we have made up for whatever reason. Some reasons would be extremely valid I am sure however our thoughts are in sides and walls and a floor and a roof. How many times have you been told to think outside the box. Presumption made that we are inside one.

I’ve thought about this and as I did, I got somewhat panicky a little freaked out! Like being zipped into a sleeping bag and being unable to get out, which is one of my true fears.

So my thoughts took me to what our sides and ceiling and floor and such could be made of in our boxes? Is it all the same, or are each persons different. There are so many constructs to the construction of ones box. I mean thought could construct a box of reinforced steel or rainbows because thought is not tangible. Unless you actually thought and then designed and created and crafted and made a real box but then that is tangible and different, I think.

Right now, in this time I am sure you have noticed that our thought boxes seem to be moving in on us and there seems to be little thought put to thinking outside of. This to me feels a lot like being zipped into that sleeping bag and being so restricted in movement that the panic button is about to be hit.

So if we take a few deep breaths and have a think, either from inside or outside of the box, the truth and the beauty is that no matter what, we can decide what our boxes are made of. So I ask you to please spend some time in determining what your box looks like.

Mine is a great expanse of nothingness. It is filled with fresh air and stars at midnight, fun and kindness and gratitude swirl around in there too along with laughter, love and smiles that are endless. There is music and dancing and imagination and when someone asks me to think outside of the box I might just suggest that they join me in mine as there is plenty of room and fresh air and space to imagine and to think.

The nothingness perhaps even suggests that there isn’t even a box and perhaps we are better off being outside of the box and then just jumping back in there on occasion to remind us of why we moved out in the first place.

Unzip that zipper I say and sleep outside of the bag!

Freak Out!

Dance a little, and enjoy the great expanse of nothingness, filled with whatever you heart desires. Create a box of true beauty. Just imagine, it may be an ever-expanding place of love and possibilities with no boundaries. Build it your way. A way that feeds your soul.

Much love to you all.
